hired a full time manager. In 1994 she purchased a computer and began to write her life story. She says that if the Lord will let her live long enough, she may get her book finished.

Evelyn is 86 years old and in 1995 she decided to develop her remaining land, this involved drilling a 600 ft. well and building a road across the area. The surveyor marked off the area in double lots and had the construction workers hook up the lots with water and sewer. By the end of Sep 1995 the lots should be ready to sell.

Dickman, Dwight and Darlys (Bosch)

Dwight and Darlys Dickman both moved to Decorah, IA during the summer of 1968, and happened to move into apartments in the same neighborhood. It was in this way that they met and were married on 27 Dec 1969 in Darlys’ parents’ home in Pella, IA.

Dwight was born 30 Apr 1939 in Garnavillo, IA to Elmer C. and Mary (Gill) Dickman. He had one older brother and one younger sister. After graduation from Garnavillo High School in 1957, he attended Wartburg College in Waverly, IA for a year and a half. In 1960 he began working for AT&T (American Telephone & Telegraph) as a construction worker. With the exception of two years that he served in the U.S. Army (1962-1964) he spent all of his working years with the telephone company, which after the breakup of AT&T in 1983 became US WEST After his first years as a construction worker, Dwight became a telephone installer-repairman, and then in 1969 became a central office technician in the Decorah office.

Darlys was the younger of two daughters born to William R and Bernice (Flikkema) Bosch. She grew up in Pella, IA. After graduation from Pella High School in 1960, she attended Central College in Pella, from which she graduated in 1964. She taught kindergarten for three years and first grade of one year. Then in 1968 Darlys was hired to teach kindergarten in Decorah, where she taught at the West Side School for two years.

After Dwight and Darlys were married, they lived in the MacMasters apartments at 119 North Mill. Their first son,

Daniel James was born after which Darlys quit teaching and was a full-time wife and mother. In Jan 1971 the Dickmans moved into the home they purchased (and still live in) at 907 Vernon Street, across the street from Phelps Park in Decorah. Their second son, Scott Eric, was born.

Dan graduated from Decorah High School in 1989. He then attended the University of Northern Iowa in Cedar Falls, from which he graduated in 1993 with a major in finance. In August of that year he accepted a position in the Commercial Real Estate Department of the Principal Financial Group in Des Moines, IA. At this time he is a commercial mortgage underwriter for that firm, and lives in Urbandale, IA.

Scott graduated from Decorah High School in 1990. He attended the University of Northern Iowa, where he majored in biology. He graduated in 1994, and is currently working as a physical therapy technician at Sartori Hospital in Cedar Falls, IA.

Digre, Sherry (Shattuck)

Sherry Kay Shattuck was born in Waukon, IA, the daughter of Robert and Ethel (Sandbeck) Shattuck. She graduated from Waukon High School and attended Iowa State Teachers College (now known as the University of Northern Iowa), Cedar Falls, IA.

Sherry Digre

Sherry married David Digre in 1963. They were divorced in 1983. They had two children: Kimberly Dawn and Michael David. Both children were born in Red Wing, MN. Michael married Lea Desley on 2 Jun 1990 in Rochester, MN. Michael and Lea have a son, Cody. Michael is employed as an HVAC mechanical contractor. Kimberly is a graduate of Mankato State College, Mankato, MN. She is a supervisor of all the counselors at the federal prison in Beckley, WV.
